Frequently Asked Questions

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s natural to have questions. Here are some of the most common things people ask before starting therapy with us. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to get in touch.

What can I expect in my first therapy session?

Your first session is called an initial assessment. This is free of charge and normally lasts between 30-45 minutes. This is a chance for us to meet and see if you feel comfortable working with me, because feeling safe is the foundation of therapy.
I’ll ask questions to understand what you’re finding difficult, how life feels right now, and what you’d like to change. We’ll also explore what helps, what makes things harder, and how this affects your day-to-day life.
Towards the end, I’ll share whether I believe we’d be a good fit and recommend the approach that may work best for you.

2. Where will my sessions take place?

  • In person: Sessions are held in bright, welcoming rooms at Oru Dulwich, 20 – 22 Lordship Lane, London SE22 8HN.
  • Online: Sessions via Microsoft Teams (or an agreed alternative) from a private, quiet space where you feel safe to talk.

It really depends on your goals and what brought you to therapy. We usually recommend starting with 6 sessions, but many people choose to work together for longer, often between 6 and 20 sessions for a specific issue. Some continue for deeper work, and you’re always welcome to return later if needed.

Yes. Everything you share is confidential. Your therapist may keep brief notes, stored securely, to support your care.
There are rare legal or safety exceptions to confidentiality, which we’ll discuss in your first session.
Sometimes, sharing information with your GP or psychiatrist can improve your care. We’ll always talk to you before doing this and only act in your best interest.

For the best results, weekly sessions at the same time each week are recommended. Consistency helps build trust and momentum.
If sessions are irregular, it can affect progress, and your therapist may not be able to hold the space for you.

Each session lasts 50 minutes. It’s a good idea to allow yourself some quiet time afterwards before returning to work, family, or other commitments.

You’ll receive a secure payment link by email before your session.
To keep your appointment reserved, please make payment at least 24 hours in advance.
This helps us confirm your session and make sure your time isn’t offered to someone else.

We use Microsoft Office for remote sessions unless this doesn’t work for your setup. If needed, we’ll agree on an alternative together.

No, but it helps us build connection and trust. Seeing each other makes communication clearer.
If video feels difficult, we can work by phone or agree to ease into video gradually. You’ll never be forced into something that feels uncomfortable.

It varies. Some people come for a few weeks or months to work on a specific issue. Others stay longer to explore their past or deepen self-understanding. There’s no fixed timeline – we’ll work at your pace, based on your goals.
